TinCaps' Winning Streak Comes to Close
May 4, 2018 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps' three-game winning streak came to an end on Friday night at Parkview Field against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Milwaukee Brewers) in a 6-3 setback.
Wisconsin (10-17) took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning and never looked back with additional runs in the fourth and seventh innings. After Fort Wayne (13-15) brought a run home in the bottom of the seventh, the Timber Rattlers added three more in the top of the eighth for insurance.
It was Star Wars Night at Parkview Field, but the force was never with the TinCaps on May 4, as the club accumulated seven hits-just two through six innings. The team wore Millennium Falcon-style jerseys that were auctioned off on TinCapsJersey.com. The auction raised $4,235.50, with all proceeds benefitting the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The run in the seventh for Fort Wayne came off a two-out RBI-single to right field from left fielder Jack Suwinski, scoring catcher Luis Campusano. The TinCaps left Suwinski as well as shortstop Gabriel Arias, who had walked, on base to end the seventh.
The top of the eighth included a two-run homer to left field from Wisconsin's Zach Clark, extending the visitors' lead to 5-1. Later in the frame, Tristen Lutz singled to shortstop, scoring another run and increasing the lead to 6-1.
Campusano singled to start the bottom of the ninth for Fort Wayne, and with two outs, designated hitter Juan Fernandez doubled to left field to score Campusano and make the score 6-2. A pair of wild-pitch strike threes brought another run home to make it 6-3, but that was as close as the 'Caps came.
Emmanuel Ramirez started on the mound for the TinCaps. Ramirez went six innings, allowed six hits and two runs. He only walked one batter and struck out seven.
Wisconsin starting pitcher Alec Bettinger had his best start of the season. Bettinger went six innings, allowed only two hits and didn't let any TinCap score. He walked three and struck out four, receiving his first win of the season.
Fernandez kept his on-base streak alive in the third inning, reaching base with a single to center field. Fernandez has reached base in 17 straight games after his 2-for-4 showing Friday night. This was his first multi-hit game of the season.
The festivities at Parkview Field continue tomorrow with more fireworks, as well as the first appearance of the season for Jake the Diamond Dog, presented by Waynedale Grooming.
