Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - TinCaps starting pitcher Jared Kollar tossed five shutout innings Wednesday night, center fielder Jakob Marsee homered, and Fort Wayne beat the Lansing Lugnuts (Oakland Athletics affiliate) at Parkview Field, 5-3. The 'Caps have won six of their last nine.
Kollar struck out three and has pitched nine consecutive innings without a walk.
Offensively for the TinCaps, Marsee (No. 22 Padres prospect) racked up his fourth homer of the season on a long fly ball that hugged the left-field line, splashing onto the concourse in the bottom of the eighth. That gave the 'Caps an insurance run heading into the final frame.
Second baseman Lucas Dunn also reached base three times, thanks to a pair of walks and an RBI double to score shortstop Jackson Merrill (No. 1 Padres prospect) after a two-out triple in the bottom of the third. That was the first run of the game.
Fort Wayne added three more in the fourth. After three straight singles to start the inning, left fielder Justin Farmer smacked a bases-loaded run-scoring single, making it a 2-0 contest. Then right fielder Joshua Mears (No. 14 Padres prospect) drew a walk to score another before Merrill hit a ground ball to push across the third run of the frame, extending the lead to 4-0.
One of Lansing's runs came in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice bunt by shortstop Max Muncy (No. 6 Athletics prospect). They rallied for two more on a couple hits in the top of the ninth, but Fort Wayne reliever Adam Smith got a strikeout to end the threat.
Right-handed relief pitcher Edwuin Bencomo, who has been on the TinCaps roster for parts of each season since 2019, made his season debut for Fort Wayne Wednesday, pitching a scoreless eighth inning.
The TinCaps are in the midst of a 12-game homestand, which continues through next week. Thursday night's contest is Colts At Bat Night, featuring defensive tackle Grover Stewart, Colts cheerleaders, mascot Blue, and more! Purchase tickets here.
