Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Davenport, Iowa - Despite falling behind 3-0 in the second inning, the Quad Cities River Bandits scored four unanswered runs on Wednesday to top the Beloit Sky Carp 4-3 at Modern Woodmen Park for the Bandits eighth-straight win.
The Sky Carp got out to their early advantage against Quad Cities' starter Mason Barnett, who retired the first five batters he faced, before giving up back-to-back two out walks in the top of the second. Josh Zamora took advantage with a two-run double, while Osiris Johnson made it 3-0 Beloit with an RBI single before being thrown out at second trying to extend it.
With some help from the Sky Carp defense, which committed six errors in the game, Quad Cities would not wait long to begin cutting into the deficit, as River Town turned a two-out double off Gabe Bierman into a little league home run, taking third and then home on throwing errors from Johnson and Tanner Allen to make it 3-1.
After allowing the three early runs, Barnett would lock in to complete his 5.0-inning start by retiring nine-straight Sky Carp batters, including four of his outing's five strikeouts.
While Bierman also kept his opposition quiet through the third and fourth, Town got to him again in the fifth, launching a conventional solo home run over the right field wall to trim Beloit's lead to 3-2.
In the top of the sixth, John McMillon kept Quad Cities deficit at one throwing his first of two scoreless frames, before Cayden Wallace plated Jack Pineda, who reached on a leadoff double against Bierman, on a double play to tie the game 3-3 in the bottom half.
Quad Cities then took its first and only lead of the ballgame in the seventh, as Paxton Wallace took advantage of right-hander Josh White's leadoff walk of Carter Jensen and drove in the Bandits catcher with a two-out knock up the middle for the 4-3 advantage.
Anderson Paulino got the final 2.0 innings on the mound for Quad Cities and picked up his sixth save of the season, including a seven-pitch bottom of the ninth.
McMillon (2-0) earned his second win of the season for the River Bandits, while Josh White (0-1) took the loss for the Sky Carp, allowing one unearned run in 1.0 relief inning.
Quad Cities will look to match its longest winning streak since 2019 on Thursday, as Eric Cerantola (0-3, 8.82) will get the baseball for the River Bandits against Beloit's Edgar Sanchez (1-3, 8.06). First pitch at Modern Woodmen Park is scheduled for 6:30pm.
