Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
MIDLAND, Mich. - The TinCaps overcame a six-run deficit to beat the Great Lakes Loons (Los Angeles Dodgers), 7-6, on Friday night at Dow Diamond. This was the largest deficit Fort Wayne has overcome in a victory since Aug. 7, 2014, when the TinCaps erased an eight-run deficit against the Lake County Captains at Parkview Field in a 10-inning, 12-11 win.
After falling behind 6-0 through the first two innings, the TinCaps stormed back with four runs in the third and three in the seventh.
Fort Wayne rallied with two outs and no one on base in the third against left-hander Leo Crawford, who had faced the minimum through eight batters. Left fielder Robbie Podorsky drew a walk, followed by back-to-back singles from center fielder Jeisson Rosario and second baseman Esteury Ruiz, the latter of which plated Podorsky. Right fielder Tirso Ornelas then belted a three-run homer to right field. It was the 18-year-old's fourth long ball of the season.
In the seventh, against righty Max Gamboa, shortstop Gabriel Arias and catcher Juan Fernandez drew consecutive walks to start the frame. After first baseman Jalen Washington singled to load the bases, Podorsky hit a sharp grounder to second base that went through the legs of Marcus Chiu, scoring Arias and Fernandez to tie the game, 6-6, and advancing Washington to third. Rosario then put the 'Caps in front with a sacrifice fly.
Korey Anderson, in his TinCaps debut, worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. Caleb Boushley followed with three scoreless innings. After lefty Ben Sheckler recorded the first two outs in the eighth, left-hander Travis Radke entered to record the final four outs and earn his eighth save of the year (a total that is tied for the second most in the league).
Fort Wayne has won three consecutive road games, and four of its last five overall.
