Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Davenport, IA - With the game on the line, Corey Julks came through in the clutch once again.  On Saturday night, the outfielder provided a pinch-hit, walk-off, two-RBI double to lift the Quad Cities River Bandits to a thrilling 10-9 victory in ten innings over the Beloit Snappers at Modern Woodmen Park.  Julks has provided the winning RBI in all three of the team's walk-off victories this season.

Starting pitcher Leovanny Rodriguez got off to a start in his fourth outing with the team.  With one out in the first inning he walked Lazaro Armenteros.  Austin Beck followed with a base hit to center, but Armenteros took too wide of a turn around second and was thrown out by Jake Meyers for the second out. Rodriguez then issued a free pass to Hunter Hargrove which was followed by a towering home run over the wall in right field by Logan Farrar.  The three-run shot was his seventh of the season.

The River Bandits got one run back in the bottom of the inning before Beloit starter Wyatt Marks had recorded an out.  Meyers doubled down the left field line to open the frame.  He broke for third on the first pitch to the next batter and slid in safely as the ball bounced past third baseman Jesus Lopez and up the left field line.  Meyers popped to his feet and raced home to trim the deficit to 3-1.

In the home half of the third, the River Bandits put two on base thanks to a two out single from Jonathan Arauz that was followed immediately by a walk of Bryan De La Cruz.  Miguelangel Sierra smacked a line drive at shortstop Nick Allen, but the infielder lost the ball in the setting sun and ducked out of the way, allowing one run to score.  Sierra's RBI pulled the Bandits within one.

Beloit put together their second big inning against Rodriguez in the top of the fourth. Hargrove led off with a single and raced home on a double from Jesus Lopez.  Trace Loehr followed with a single that pushed Lopez to third base and left runners on the corners.  Skyler Weber lifted a sacrifice fly into left field to score Lopez and then Nick Allen plated another run with his single to expand the Snappers lead to 6-2.

The Bandits bounced back in the bottom of the fourth.  Roman Garcia started the frame with a double off the wall in left.  He scored immediately on a single by Michael Papierski in the ensuing at bat. The River Bandits missed out on a chance to add more, stranding two in scoring position as the inning came to an end with the Snappers on top 6-3.

The team's traded single runs as the Bandits received a run-scoring single from Michael Papierski in the fourth and Beloit countered with a solo home run from Jesus Lopez in the sixth.

As a result, Beloit owned a 7-3 lead going to the seventh.  Quad Cities clawed back with an RBI single from Jonathan Arauz and a two-run home run from Jake Adams, his eighth, to pull within one.  In the eighth, Bryan De La Cruz gave the Bandits the lead with his bases loaded, two out, two-RBI single into left on a full count pitch from Seth Martinez.

Beloit didn't go away quietly in the ninth.  Instead, Mickey McDonald started the frame with a double and then scored on Austin Beck's single into left to tie the score.  After a tremendous diving catch by Jake Meyers, Trace Loehr singled to right in the top of the tenth to plate Hargrove and give Beloit a 9-8 lead.  Humberto Castellanos managed to leave two baserunners in scoring position as the inning came to a close.

The bottom of the frame began with Garcia on second base.  He was joined by Adrian Tovalin, who worked a walk.  That set the stage for Julks who drilled a 2-2 pitch into the gap to plate both runners and win the game.

The Bandits compiled 13 hits with Meyers and Arauz leading the way with three each.  De La Cruz, Adams, and Julks each drove in two runs.

Rodriguez worked 5.0 innings as the starter and allowed seven runs on 10 hits.  Willy Collado followed with 4.0 solid frames during which he surrendered just one run on three hits.  Castellanos picked up the win by working the final frame.

The River Bandits (31-25) and Snappers (25-28) finish off the three-game series with the rubber match on Sunday at 1:15 p.m.  RHP Cesar Rosado (2-2, 4.06) will start for the River Bandits opposite RHP Xavier Altamirano (3-2, 2.50) throwing for Beloit.

All River Bandits games are broadcast on 1170 K-BOB and TuneIn Radio.  Home games are also available with video on MiLB.TV.
