
Hernandez Homers Twice, Hot Rods Win 7-2

BOWLING GREEN, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods won their second game in a row, beating the West Michigan Whitecaps 7-2 in game two of a three game series. The Whitecaps scored first, but the Hot Rods were able to responded immediately and add on to improve to 35-19 on the season.
West Michigan got the first run of the ballgame in the top of the second inning when RF Dylan Rosa hit a ground rule double to left center field, and came around to score on a groundout from C Brady Policelli.
Bowling Green responded in the bottom half of the frame when C Ronald Hernandez hit a solo home run to tie the game up at one. The Hot Rods took the lead in the third ining when 3B Adrian Rondon hit a leadoff single and advanced to third on a single from 2B Vidal Brujan. DH Taylor Walls picked up the go-ahead RBI on a single, and 3B Zach Rutherford hit an RBI fielder's choice to give the Hot Rods a 3-1 lead.
Bowling Green picked up two more runs in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a two run shot from Brujan which hit off the scoreboard in right field. That was the second home run of the season for Brujan, the first that left the ballpark.
The Whitecaps added on a run in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a solo home run from SS Jordan Pearce. That was the last run West Michigan got in the ballgame. RHP Tommy Romero got the start for Bowling Green and threw six innings allowing three hits, two runs, three walks, and seven strikeouts. He picked up his fourth win of the season and first in a Hot Rods jersey.
RHP Jhonleider Salinas pitched the seventh inning and walked two but didn't allow anything else as he earned his first hold of the season. The final two runs of the game for the Hot Rods came in the eighth inning when Hernandez hit his second home run of the game, a two run home run this time to give the Hot Rods the 7-2 lead.
LHP Hunter Schryver pitched the final two inning and only allowed one hit while striking out three in two innings of work as he picked up his fifth save of the year.
The Hot Rods will go for the sweep over the Whitecaps tomorrow. Bowling Green will send RHP Tobias Myers (5-3, 5.49) to the hill, and he will be opposed by RHP Matt Manning (1-2, 3.82) for West Michigan. First pitch will be at 2:05pm at Bowling Green Ballpark.
