West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
BOWLING GREEN, KY - The West Michigan Whitecaps struggles away from home continued as the team got behind early for the third straight night and never recovered as part of a 7-2 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods Saturday at Bowling Green Ballpark.
The Whitecaps are now 2-7 on their 10-game road trip and have gone 11-18 away from Fifth Third Ballpark this year. The loss also sends them to just one game over .500 for the first time since their 20-19 mark held on May 17.
The Whitecaps struck first when Dylan Rosa doubled to lead off the second inning and scored on a groundout by Brady Policelli to take a 1-0 lead. The Hot Rods scored the next five runs of the game against "Caps starter Dane Myers as both Rolando Hernandez and Vidal Brujan blasted home runs. The solo shot for Hernandez was his second home run in as many days and his fifth homer of the season. Jordan Pearce sent out a home run of his own in the sixth, his third of the year. In the eighth, Hernandez blasted another home run, a two-run shot to extend the lead to 7-2 and end the scoring in the ballgame.
Myers (1-1) suffered his first loss of the season after giving up a career-high five runs in 5.1 innings, while Tommy Romero (4-3) allowed two runs in six frames while striking out seven to earn his fourth win. The Whitecaps record falls to 28-27 while the Hot Rods improves to 35-19. Pearce led the offense in a losing cause with two hits, including the home run.
