Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The TinCaps erupted for a six-run inning in a 10-8 slugfest win over the Quad Cities River Bandits, Sunday at Modern Woodmen Park. Jeudy Valdez went 4-for-5 and missed the cycle by a home run.

Valdez came up needing a home run in the sixth inning and smoked a double high off the center- field wall. He flied out in the eighth. The only cycle in franchise history came in 1993 from Rene Lopez.

Fort Wayne took a first-inning lead when Jason Hagerty pounded a two-run homer. Valdez's infield single in the third inning made it 3-0.

Quad Cities rallied in the bottom of the third, taking the lead thanks in part to a pair of Fort Wayne errors. A double by Matt Adams drove in the tying and go-ahead runs to make it 4-3.

The TinCaps scored six runs in the top of the fourth. With two outs, Danny Payne doubled off the wall in right-center to put Fort Wayne ahead, 5-4. Jeudy Valdez doubled into the left-field corner to make it 6-4 and Hagerty hooked another double into the right-field corner to stretch the lead to 7-4. Nate Freiman capped the rally by smacking a two-run homer over the left-field fence, putting the TinCaps ahead, 9-4.

The River Bandits got as close as 9-7 in the bottom of the fifth, but Edinson Rincon's sacrifice fly in the sixth made it 10-7.

Quad Cities got a two-out RBI single from Alan Ahmady in the seventh inning to cut the lead to 10-8, but Miles Mikolas delivered 1.1 scoreless innings and Nick Schumacher fired a scoreless ninth to close it out.

TinCaps RHP Matt Jackson (1-1) grabbed the win, going 2.2 innings in relief; River Bandits RHP Eric Fornataro (7-8) was the losing pitcher. The save was Schumacher's 20th of the year.

Fort Wayne improved to 12-11 in the half, 48-45 for the season. Quad Cities dropped to 13-8 in the second half, 53-37 for the year.

The TinCaps finish the three-game series against the River Bandits (Class-A St. Louis Cardinals) Monday at 2:00 p.m. ET. Fort Wayne LHP Nick Greenwood (4-4) goes to the mound, opposed by Quad Cities RHP Jorge Rondon (3-5).
