Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release

Peoria, IL - The Hot Rods suffered through another rough game on Sunday, picking up just six hits while committing two costly errors in a 9-0 loss to the Peoria Chiefs. Bowling Green has now dropped the first two games to Peoria, leaving them with a 3-5 record heading into the final game of their road trip on Monday morning.

Peoria took advantage of the first Hot Rods error on just the second pitch of the game. After Hak-Ju Lee reached on a bunt single, Matt Cerda lofted a fly ball to deep center field that was misplayed by Ty Morrison. The ball tipped the end of his glove, allowing Lee to score and Cerda to reach third on the miscue. Two batters later Justin Bour lifted a sacrifice fly to left to make it 2-0.

Another error in the second opened the flood gates for the Chiefs. Starter Albert Suarez recorded two outs while giving up a single and a walk to put runners at first and third. Suarez was then removed from the game for Tyree Hayes, who looked like he would end the inning by inducing a ground ball to shortstop. Unfortunately, Robi Estrada booted the ball, which allowed a run to score for a 3-0 lead. From there, Hayes allowed the next five batters to reach, scoring five more runs to bust the game open at 8-0 Chiefs.

Those two early errors led to eight unearned runs against Hot Rods pitchers. Suarez lasted 1.2 innings, giving up four unearned on four hits and a walk. Hayes allowed one more run in the third before leaving after 1.1 frames. He gave up five total runs, one earned, on five hits and three walks.

Aaron Dott came on in the fourth and stopped the bleeding by working three shutout innings. The lefty allowed just two hits while striking out two. He has now gone 15.2 innings in July, allowing one earned run for an ERA of 0.57.

While Dott shut down the Peoria bats, the Hot Rods couldn't find their offensive groove. They had just two hits and two walks through the first six innings, getting just one runner to second base. In the seventh, they were able to string together three singles but relief pitcher Steven Grife retired Julio Cedeno and Dustin Biell to end the threat. They loaded them up in the ninth again but weren't able to push across a run.

They ended the game with just six hits, three coming off the bat of Cohen. They also drew four walks. Going back to Friday's loss in Burlington, IA, the team has now gone 22 straight innings without scoring a run.

Deivis Mavarez and Alex Koronis each pitched a scoreless inning to close out the game for the Hot Rods, who have now been shut out three times in the last six games.

The series and the road trip come to an end on Monday morning at O'Brien Field. RHP Jason McEachern (4-8, 5.05) takes the ball against Peoria RHP Su-Min Jung (5-3, 3.86). First pitch is at 11:05 AM. You can follow the game on the radio with Tom Gauthier beginning at 12:50 PM CDT on 1340 AM WBGN and www.bghotrods.com.

The Hot Rods return home to begin an action-packed home stand on Wednesday, July 21 against the Quad Cities River Bandits, the Midwest League affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. For tickets and to check out the list of upcoming promotions, visit www.bghotrods.com.
