South Bend Silver Hawks News Release

Clinton, IA - After being shut out for three straight games, the Silver Hawks finally broke through and scored six runs on Sunday afternoon at Clinton. However, it wouldn't be enough as the LumberKings put up more, defeating South Bend 9-6 at Alliant Energy Field.

The LumberKings kept the pressure on early, scoring seven runs against South Bend starter Brad Gemberling (LP, 2-7) and the Silver Hawks defense. The Silver Hawks committed three errors to make two of the runs unearned, but Clinton was there to take advantage.

James Jones had a two run homer in the third inning, while Henry Contreras added two RBIs to help Clinton jump out to the early 7-2 lead. After South Bend cut it to a three run deficit, Nick Franklin put the game out of reach with a two run blast against Brian Budrow (ND) in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Silver Hawks scoreless inning streak reached 29 innings after failing to score in their first two at-bats Sunday afternoon. Finally in the third, the Silver Hawks strung together five straight singles to score two runs and get on the board for the first time since the ninth inning Wednesday night at Kane County. One run scored on an error with Bobby Borchering driving in the other run with a single to left field to give the Silver Hawks a brief 2-1 lead.

David Narodowski did his best to keep South Bend in the game, blasting a two run homer in the sixth inning and adding a RBI single in the eighth. Narodowski went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored for South Bend.

The Silver Hawks scored twice in the eighth inning and had the tying run at first base with two outs, but Clinton closer Brandon Josselyn (SV, 12) got out of the jam and held the Silver Hawks at bay in the ninth for the save.

Borchering's single in the third extended his hitting streak to 13 games - a personal best and the team's second longest streak this season. Keon Broxton had a RBI in the eighth inning as part of a two hit performance.

Rafael Quezada (ND) and Kevin Munson (ND) both threw scoreless innings of relief, with Munson's being his second straight scoreless inning to start his pro career.

The Silver Hawks and LumberKings wrap up the three game series with a morning start on Monday beginning at 11:00 AM Eastern Time. RHP Diogenes Rosario (4-4, 3.72 ERA) will be in the starting role for South Bend against Clinton's RHP Erasmo Ramirez (6-3, 2.71 ERA). Pregame coverage begins at 10:40 AM Eastern Time on 1620 ESPN Radio and online at www.silverhawks.com .
