About Last Game : The TinCaps excelled in all three facets of the game Tuesday night and it resulted in a 5-2 win on the road against the Lugnuts, 4-2. With the win, Fort Wayne gained ground in the Eastern Division playoff race.

A TinCaps Win Would : Be their 2nd in a row... Be a chance to gain ground on at least one team ahead of them in the playoff race, as two teams currently in front of the TinCaps - Lake County and Dayton - play each other. (Also of interest: Great Lakes hosts Bowling Green.) See the Standings below.

Apropos of Left Handers Day : The TinCaps face left-hander Brent Powers today, Left Handers Day around the world. On the season, Fort Wayne, which has a team batting average of .279 against lefties (compared to .261 vs. righties) is 13-11 in games in which the opponent starts a southpaw this year. Countering conventional thinking, left-handed batters Jake Bauers (.316) and Josh VanMeter (.310) have had the most success against left-handed pitching.

Happy Anniversary : A month ago today, Trea Turner debuted with the TinCaps. In his first 27 games, the shortstop has hit .434 with a .500 OBP. Since July 13, Turner's 49 hits are the most in Minor League Baseball. His average is fourth best and OBP is tied for sixth highest. Meanwhile, last night marked one month since Ryan Butler pitched for the first time as a TinCap. Butler celebrated the occasion by registering his sixth save in as many opportunities. Through his first 11 appearances in the Midwest League, Butler has a 0.63 ERA in 14.1 IP with 19 strikeouts. Fort Wayne is 18-11 since their arrival. The TinCaps had lost 13 games in a row before they came.

No One Man Should Have All That Power : Heeding the words of Kanye West, Fort Wayne, ranks fourth out of 16 Midwest League teams in home runs with 82, despite being one of only six teams in the circuit without an individual player who has hit 12 or more. On Tuesday, Henry Charles and Ronnie Richardson both vaulted solo shots, their fifth and second of the year, respectively. Ryan Miller and Fernando Perez lead the team with 11 apiece. With 20 games to go in the season, Fort Wayne is on pace for 95 home runs, which would be their most since 2009 (97). The TinCaps already have more home runs than they hit in 2013 (76), 2012 (64), and 2011 (67). They're closing in on the 90 they hit in 2010.

P.S. : Fernando Perez and Nick Schulz are both on 8-game hitting streaks.
