Bees Lose Series Opener in Extras

(Burlington-IA) Peoria Chiefs' outfielder Rowan Wick smacked a two run homer in the top of the 14th inning, helping the Peoria Chiefs defeat the Burlington Bees, 4-2, on Tuesday.

Juan Herrera opened the scoring, lining a double down the right field line, scoring Vaughn Bryan, putting the Chiefs on top 1-0 in the first.

Angels' 15th overall pick, Sean Newcomb, settled down and worked three and a third innings, allowing just a run on three hits and struck out three in a no decision.

Chiefs' starter Alex Reyes preserved Peoria's 1-0 lead, going six scoreless innings, rendering three hits, and striking out a career high 11 Bees' hitters.

Erick Salcedo led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a walk and moved to second on a Bo Way single. After back-to-back outs, Eric Aguilera walked, loading the bases. Mike Fish lined a single into right-center, scoring Selcedo and Way, giving the Bees a 2-1 lead.

Justin Ringo tied the game at two in the top of the ninth inning with a single, scoring CJ McElroy from second.

For the 19th time this season, the Bees went to extra innings. It took until the 14th inning for the deadlock to be broken when Rowan Wick smacked a two run homer, giving Peoria their second lead of the night.

The Bees loaded the bases with one out, but Chiefs closer Kyle Barraclough (5) retired the next two Bees, securing the 4-2 win for Peoria.

Chiefs' reliever Jhonny Polanco (4-1) picked up the win while Bees' reliever Ronnie Muck (1-1) was charged with the loss.

The Burlington Bees (61-58) and the Peoria Chiefs (63-56) continue the series Wednesday night at 6:30. Harrsion Cooney takes the hill for the Bees against Chase Brookshire of Peoria.
