Beloit Sky Carp News Release

A night after tallying 14 hits, the Beloit offense struggled to find any rhythm Wednesday evening as the Snappers fell to the Cedar Rapids Kernels 6-1.

Both teams struggled hitting with runners in scoring position, as they went a combined 4-for-17, but the Kernels capitalized on extra-base hits. In contrast to last night's game where the Kernels scored 12 runs on 12 singles, Cedar Rapids racked up two doubles, a triple and two home runs Wednesday night.

Cedar Rapids ace Kohl Stewart (2013 1st round draft pick) went four innings, giving up three hits and one earned run in his first start since spending almost a month on the DL. Chih-Wei Hu (5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER) picked up the win for the Kernels while Lou Trivino (7 IP, 8 H, 4 ER) recorded the loss for Beloit.

The Kernels struck first just minutes into the ballgame as Chad Christensen's RBI-triple scored Jonatan Hinojosa. In the next at-bat, Mitch Garver sent Christensen home with an RBI of his own, and Cedar Rapids had a 2-0 lead after one inning.

In the second frame, J.D. Williams led off the inning with a solo shot home run to right field to give Cedar Rapids a 3-0 lead.

The Snappers recorded their first hit of the ballgame and got on the scoreboard in the third inning to cut Cedar Rapids' lead to 3-1. Chih-Fang Pan came through with a two-out RBI-double to RF to score Michael Soto. The Snappers stranded runners on second and third base as Matt Chapman struck out to end the inning.

The Kernels tacked on a run in the fourth as an Engelb Vielma RBI-groundout scored Max Murphy from third base.

After three scoreless innings, Cedar Rapids added two more runs in the eighth on a Max Murphy 2-run home run to centerfield to give the Kernels a 6-1 lead.

The Snappers and Kernels conclude their three-game series Thursday night at 7:00 p.m.
