Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release
Burlington, IA - The Fort Wayne TinCaps couldn't come up with the big hit in Monday's game. The Burlington Bees did. A two-out RBI single by Nick Francis in the 8th inning delivered the go- ahead run in a 5-4 loss at Community Field. The TinCaps went 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position.
The TinCaps twice stranded runners at second and third and once left the bases loaded.
Burlington jumped in front in the bottom of the 3rd . Patrick Norris reached on a two-out infield single. He was picked off by Fort Wayne LHP Mike Watt, but the throw to first was errant and the ball rattled around in foul territory long enough for Norris to race all the way around to score.
Fort Wayne took the lead in the top of the 4th , loading the bases with nobody out. Yefri Carvajal grounded into an RBI fielder's choice to tie the game. Then Adam Zornes lifted a sacrifice fly to left to plate Cole Figueroa with the go-ahead run to make it 2-1.
The Bees tied the game in the bottom of the 4th . Jason Taylor stroked a leadoff single to right, stole second and scored on a two-out infield single by Juan Graterol.
Shawn Griffin blasted a two-run home run to right-center in the 7th to give Burlington a 4-2 lead.
The TinCaps came right back in the top of the 8th , loading the bases with nobody out. Kevin Hansen ripped a two-run double down the left-field line to tie the game at 4-4. An intentional walk reloaded the bases, but the TinCaps could not push across more runs.
In the bottom of the 8th , Adrian Ortiz drew a one-out walk. He stole second and Francis drove Ortiz home with a two-out RBI single up the middle to give Burlington a 5-4 lead.
Burlington RHP Barry Bowden (3-2) worked a season-high 3.1 innings to pick up the win. LHP Rob Musgrave (1-4) took the loss.
With the loss, the TinCaps dropped to 69-31, 24-6 in the second half. Burlington upped its record to 42-57, 13-16 in the half.
The TinCaps head home to Parkview Field to host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (Class-A Milwaukee Brewers) in a three-game series beginning Tuesday at 7:05pm. Fort Wayne RHP Simon Castro (6-4) is opposed by Wisconsin RHP Wily Peralta (3-2).
