Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
For the second time in 10 days and the third time this season, the Quad Cities River Bandits started a game that will have to wait until another day to be completed.
On Tuesday, the River Bandits were leading the South Bend Silver Hawks, 2-0, in the top of the fourth inning at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium when the game was put into a rain delay and eventually suspended. The contest will be resumed on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. ET, while Wednesday's regularly scheduled game will begin 30 minutes after its conclusion and be shortened to seven innings.
Quad Cities scored both of their runs in the first inning. After Jose Garcia walked and stole second, Jason Stidham drilled a run-scoring double that one-hopped the wall in right. Later in the frame, Matt Carpenter lined a two-out single up the middle to plate Stidham for a 2-0 advantage.
Meanwhile, River Bandits starter Scott McGregor faced the minimum through three shutout frames, inducing four groundouts and fanning one. The only hit he allowed was a single to Alberto Diaz leading off the second, but moments later Travis Mitchell made a lunging shoestring catch in left and fired a bullet to first to double up the runner.
Carpenter led off the top of the fourth with a double and proceeded to steal third base, where he stood with two outs as Mitchell came to the plate. But as a breaking ball snapped over the plate to run the count to 0-2, a bolt of lightning flashed nearby and the game was immediately sent into a delay.
The rain started moments later, and after a 45-minute wait the game was officially suspended at 8:50 ET.
UP NEXT: The River Bandits continue a six-game road trip at 5:00 p.m. CT on Wednesday night with the conclusion of Tuesday's suspended game followed by a seven-inning contest against the South Bend Silver Hawks. They will return to the Quad Cities on Monday, August 3, for a four-game series against the Cedar Rapids Kernels that starts with Klement's Dollar Dog Night!
