FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps fell behind early and never recovered, losing to the Lake County Captains, 9-3, Saturday at Parkview Field. Jake Blackwood rapped an RBI double.

Lake County LHP Mike Rayl fired six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts. He retired the final 13 batters he faced and the only hit he allowed came in the second inning.

The Captains scored a run in the first on a single by Jesus Aguilar. In the third, Alex Monsalve smacked an RBI triple to right and scored on a wild pitch to make it 3-0.

Lake County tacked on three more runs in the fifth, the big blow coming on a two-run triple by Jordan Casas. An inning later, Carlos Moncrief drilled an RBI double to push the deficit to 7-0. The Captains plated two more in the seventh to stretch the margin to 9-0.

Fort Wayne got on the board in the bottom of the seventh after Rayl departed. Rico Noel drew a leadoff walk and scored when Blackwood rifled a double near the left-field line. An inning later, B.J. Guinn stroked an RBI triple into the right-field corner and scored on a wild pitch to make it 9-3.

Fort Wayne RHP Adys Portillo (1-8) lasted just three innings and absorbed the loss. Rayl (5-2) grabbed the win.

The TinCaps fell to 0-2 in the second half, 30-41 overall; Lake County is 2-0 in the half, 30-41 for the season.

The TinCaps and Captains (Class-A Cleveland Indians) finish the three-game series Sunday at 3:05 p.m. at Parkview Field. Fort Wayne RHP Zach Cates (2-4) goes against Lake County RHP Kyle Blair (3-5).
