Beloit Sky Carp News Release

BELOIT, WI - For the second consecutive night, the Snappers sent Pohlman Field crowd home happy. This time, it was 2011 draftee, Adam Bryant's turn. Bryant's double in the tenth inning scored Wang-Wei Lin as the Snappers won 8-7 over the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Once again the night was finished off with a brilliant fireworks show thanks to Rock Energy Cooperative.

The Snappers (2-0) started off in the hole 3-0 but stormed back with a six-run second inning, capped by a bases-load double by none other than Adam Bryant, which cleared the bases. The Kernels (0-2), wouldn't go down without a fight, scoring one run in each of the third, fourth and seventh innings. 2011 Home Run Derby Champion Travis Witherspoon showed off his power by hitting two home runs to provide most of the offense for Cedar Rapids.

Going into the bottom of the ninth they led 7-6. That is, until 2011 All-Star Michael Gonzales stepped to the plate.

Gonzales led off the bottom of the ninth inning and obliterated a pitch from Kernels reliever Dakota Robinson and sent it towering over the left-center field fence to tie the game up for the Snappers that eventually went to extra-innings.

After a quiet top of the tenth from the Kernels, Wang-Wei Lin set things up by hustling out of the box as he hit a grounder to center field. Lin caught the Cedar Rapids defense off-guard as he took advantage of his speed and slid into second safely, stretching the hit into his 15th double of the season.

Adam Bryant then finished the Kernels off with a shot to the left-center gap off of Daniel Tillman to score Lin easily. The rowdy crowd of 2,824-strong went crazy as the Snappers celebrated their second walk-off hit in consecutive days. Last night, it was Daniel Santana's squeeze bunt in the bottom of the ninth inning that scored Lance Ray to win it.

Offensively for Cedar Rapids, Witherspoon finished 2-for-4 with two HRs and four RBI. David Harris also collected two hits in the loss. Starting pitcher Justin La Tempa only lasted 1+ innings as he allowed five earned runs, all with no outs in the 2nd inning. Tillman (4-2, 2.51 ERA) took the loss.

Michael Tonkin pitched the ninth and tenth innings, not allowing the Kernels to any hits and striking out two to pick up his third win of the year (3-1, 4.14 ERA). A.J. Achter started the game and surrendered six earned runs on seven hits. His ERA is now 3.99 on the season after being 2.59 to start the game.

The "Brodie Trophy Player of the Game" goes to Adam Bryant whose two-out RBI double won the game for the Snappers in the tenth inning. He finished the night 2-for-4 with four RBI and two doubles in his first game as a Snapper at Pohlman Field.
