
Snappers Squeeze Kernels, 3-2

Beloit, WI - The Beloit Snappers scored a run in the bottom of the 9th inning on a squeeze play to edge the Kernels 3-2 at Pohlman Field on Friday night. Daniel Santana laid a bunt down the 3rd base line, scoring Lance Ray from 3rd base to win the game. Ray had singled with one out and reached 3rd base on a single by Tobias Streich.
Donn Roach (4-4) took the loss for the Kernels. He went 2.1 innings in relief and allowed one run on four hits. He struck out one and walked none. David Harris tied the ballgame 2-2 in the 9th inning with a solo home run to center field. The home run came off of Snappers closer Jose Gonzalez. Gonzalez (4-1) ended up with the win for Beloit. He went one inning and allowed one run on one hit.
Beloit's Nate Roberts hit a two-run home run to right center off of Kernels starter Heath Nichols in the 1st inning, giving the Snappers a 2-0 lead early on. The Kernels trimmed the Snappers lead to one run in the 5th inning. Marcus Nidiffer doubled off of Beloit starter Ryan O'Rourke, scoring Justin Bass and cutting Beloit's lead to 2-1.
O'Rourke started and went five innings for the Snappers, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out nine and walked none. Manuel Soliman went two innings in relief, allowing no runs on one hit while striking out three. Clinton Dempster pitched one inning and allowed no runs and no hits. Nichols started for the Kernels, going five innings and allowing two runs on two hits. He struck out five and walked two. Tyler Kehrer pitched one inning in relief, allowing no runs on no hits while striking out two and walking one.
The Kernels continue the three game series at Beloit on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The Kernels return home on June 30 against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
