South Bend, IN - The Fort Wayne TinCaps pounded out 16 hits in an 11-5 triumph over the South Bend Silver Hawks, Thursday at Coveleski Stadium. RHP Anthony Bass beat South Bend for the third time this year, firing five strong innings.

It was Fort Wayne's 43rd win of the first half, setting a franchise record. With a West Michigan loss, the TinCaps' magic number is down to two to clinch a first-half championship.

The TinCaps' first four runs were driven in by Matt Clark. Daniel Robertson dropped a base-hit bunt, went to third on Jaff Decker's single and scored when Clark bounced into a fielder's choice. In the 3rd , Clark drilled a two-out RBI double to right to make it 2-0. With the bases loaded and nobody out in the 5th , Clark smashed a two-run single to center to push the lead to 4-1.

Fort Wayne went on to score six runs in the 5th inning. Kevin Hansen, Dean Anna and Blake Tekotte each slapped RBI singles as the lead ballooned to 8-1.

In the bottom of the 6th , South Bend scored on a Rossmel Perez's RBI single which cut the lead to 8-2.

RBI singles by Robert Lara and Robertson in the 7th made it 10-2.

In the bottom of the 7th , South Bend scored three more runs to cut it to a 10-5 margin. An RBI fielder's choice from Anna made it 11-5.

Bass (6-3) grabbed the win, allowing a run on six hits and a walk while striking out five in five innings of work. South Bend RHP Brett Moorhouse took the loss to fall to 2-8.

The win gives the TinCaps a two-game lead over West Michigan in the Eastern Division with a 43-24 record. South Bend lost its seventh game in a row, dropping to 26-39.

The TinCaps and Silver Hawks (Class-A Arizona Diamondbacks) continue the four-game series Friday at Coveleski Stadium. Fort Wayne RHP Simon Castro (4-4) goes to the mound against South Bend RHP Ryan Cook (5-4) in a 7:30pm start.
