West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

DAYTON, OH- The West Michigan Whitecaps bounced back from a bitter defeat the night before to blank the Dayton Dragons, 6-0, Friday night at Fifth Third Field. Casey Crosby was tremendous on the mound, and the Whitecaps' hitters responded with eleven hits to overpower the Dragons. Each team has won a game in the series. West Michigan stands two games back of Fort Wayne with two games to play in the Eastern division.

Casey Crosby (5-2) was back to his old self throwing 5 innings of two-hit, shutout ball. The southpaw walked 3 batters and struck out 5 in a dazzling display for the win.

The Whitecaps took control of the game from the first pitch on as Gustavo Nunez singled to lead-off the game and scored on Ronnie Bourquin's sacrifice fly. Billy Nowlin followed Bourquin with his fifth homerun of the year, and the ‘Caps lead, 2-0.

West Michigan added a run in the second on Avisail Garcia's scamper home during a passed ball.

The game would stay, 3-0 Whitecaps, until the eighth. Garcia brought home Billy Nowling on a sacrifice fly for the ‘Caps fourth run.

The Whitecaps finished off Dayton with two more runs in the ninth inning. Gustavo Nunez tripled and then scored on Bryan Pounds' RBI single. Mike Gosse then ripped a single to center to plate Billy Nowlin and up the ‘Caps advantage to 6-0.

Whitecaps' pitching was the story though. Along with Crosby's fine efforts, Victor Larez tossed 3 innings of one-hit, shutout baseball. And closer Tyler Stohr worked a perfect ninth.

Josh Ravin (3-8) started for Dayton and took the loss. He lasted 7 innings, surrendering 3 runs, 2 walks, and 4 strikeouts.

Gustavo Nunez had two hits as did Joe Bowen for a ‘Caps lineup that had 7 of the nine starters get at least one hit. Mike Gosse finished 3-4.

The Whitecaps and Dragons will meet in game three of the series Saturday night at Fifth Third Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
