Dragons Lose to West Michigan 6-0

Dayton, Ohio-Casey Crosby and two relievers combined on a three-hit shutout as the West Michigan Whitecaps defeated the Dayton Dragons 6-0 on Friday night before a crowd of 8,610 at Fifth Third Field. The two clubs have split the first two games of the series.

West Michigan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning against Dragons starting pitcher Josh Ravin (3-8). Ronnie Bourquin's sacrifice fly brought in the first run and Billy Nowlin's solo home run made it 2-0. The Whitecaps added an unearned run against Ravin in the second.

Meanwhile, Crosby (5-2) worked five innings of scoreless baseball, allowing just two hits with three walks and five strikeouts to earn the win.

West Michigan broke the game open with one run in the eighth and two more in the ninth to go ahead 6-0.

All three Dayton hits were singles. Dave Sappelt, Andrew Means, and Kevin Coddington each had one hit. Means extended his hitting streak to seven straight games.

Ravin fired seven strong innings but suffered the loss. He allowed seven hits and three runs (two earned) with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Dragons (27-41) host the Whitecaps (42-26) at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday at Fifth Third Field. Curtis Partch (4-5, 5.20) will start for the Dragons against Mark Sorensen (1-2, 3.15). The game will be televised on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (Channel 708 on most Time Warner cable systems). Former Reds manager, coach, and player Tommy Helms will provide color commentary.
