Timbers Earn Road Point with 1-1 Draw against New York Red Bulls

HARRISON, N.J. - The Portland Timbers earned a 1-1 draw on the road against the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena on Saturday evening. Jaroslaw Niezgoda recorded his team-leading third goal of the season, while Marvin Loría and Santiago Moreno each tallied an assist to help the Timbers earn a point on the road.

On The Road

Portland has earned at least one point in four of its six of road matches this season. Individually, all three of Niezgoda's goals have come in road matches this campaign.

Goals + Assists

With his goal in the match, Niezgoda is tied for the team lead in goals (3) with Yimmi Chara. Moreno recorded his second assist of the campaign in the match. He is one of three players this season to register multiple assists for the club along with Sebastián Blanco (2) and Yimmi Chara (3). Loría became the fourth player to tally an assist for the club in 2022.

Goal-Scoring Plays

POR - Jaroslaw Niezgoda (Santiago Moreno, Marvin Loría), 53rd minute: Marvin Loría played the ball out wide on the right side to Santiago Moreno, who delivered a cross to the near post. Jaroslaw Niezgoda made a darting run to the edge of the six-yard box and tucked the ball into the bottom right corner of the goal with a left-footed finish.

NYRB - Aaron Long (Dylan Nealis, Thomas Edwards), 67th minute: Thomas Edwards delivered a corner kick into the box, Dylan Nealis headed the ball back across the goal and Aaron Long converted from the top of the six-yard box.

Notes

Jaroslaw Niezgoda scored his third goal of the season. He is tied for the team lead in goals with Yimmi Chara.

All three of Niezgoda's goals have come in road matches this season.

Marvin Loría recorded his first assist of the 2022 season and the 10th assist of his MLS career in the match.

Loria is one of five players on the active Timbers roster with 10 or more career assists with the club, joining Dairon Asprilla, Sebastián Blanco, Diego Chara and Yimmi Chara.

Santiago Moreno tallied his second assist of the campaign. He is one of three players on the team with multiple assists this season (Yimmi Chara, Sebastián Blanco).

The Timbers have scored four goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half, only Orlando City (5) and New York City FC (5) have scored more in MLS this season.

Portland is unbeaten against Eastern Conference opponents in 2022, earning draws against the New England Revolution, Orlando City SC and the Red Bulls.

With the draw, Portland has earned at least one point in three of its last four trips to Red Bull Arena, posting a record of 1-1-2, dating back to May 24, 2014.

David Bingham made his Timbers debut in the match. It was the 181st start in his MLS career.

Yimmi Chara has started all 11 games for Portland this season. He is the only player to start every match for the team in 2022.
