Guzmán Corujo: "You Can Never Let Your Guard Down"
May 7, 2022 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Charlotte FC News Release
CHARLOTTE - Center back, Guzmán Corujo, has played every single MLS minute this season for Charlotte FC. He's been a mainstay for the team and showed why on the day. Corujo praised the fans and credited them as one of the main reasons for earning the win against Miami.
"Coming back home is beautiful. We feel really comfortable playing here with our people. The support is incredible, we feel it with every ball and play.
"It's very important for us, that support throughout the match helps us keep pushing. It's one of the most important factors to earn all three points... it's really something to stand up and applaud for.
"Today we created a lot of scoring opportunities, especially in the first half. It's something we have to continue to work on, playing in the final third. But I think we were dominant for large portions of the match. Whether it was in possession, or in transition, but we felt really comfortable with our performance today."
Individually, Corujo had an outstanding performance making crucial tackles and interceptions to keep the Club's 4th clean sheet intact. He attributes his play to the confidence his teammates and coaches have instilled in him.
"I think one of the most important aspects is confidence. The confidence that your teammates and coaching staff give you. It translates onto the pitch. I feel great and it's always important to be able to help the Club achieve our goals."
The team was lively on offense however they did give up some dangerous scoring opportunities to Miami. Something that Corujo says the team is aware of and stresses that after a win it's even more important to stay focused and work hard to continue improving.
"We have to work on that. It shouldn't be that easy to get through us. But it's all different aspects we are aware of. Just because you win doesn't mean that is that, in fact, it means we have to work even harder.
"Seeing where we messed up, why things happened the way they did, and keep pushing... It's always great to win but you can never let your guard down and we keep working just as hard as we have."
