Revolution Battle Columbus Crew to 2-2 Draw on Saturday

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution (3-5-2, 11 pts.) played the Columbus Crew (3-3-4, 13 pts.) to a 2-2 draw in front of a crowd of 26,421 on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. Defender DeJuan Jones netted his first goal of the season in the 70th minute, leveling the match at 1-1 after Columbus opened the scoring on Miguel Berry's tally in the 27th minute. Forward Adam Buksa scored for the fourth straight match with a headed goal in the 82nd minute, assisted by Sebastian Lletget. Columbus closed the scoring on Erik Hurtado's 89th-minute strike.

Emmanuel Boateng, who entered the match as a substitute in the 68th minute, made an immediate impact by providing the assist on Jones' game-tying goal. Carles Gil also recorded an assist on the play, marking the third straight game with a helper for the Revolution captain. Gil's five assists are tied for second most in MLS this season.

Buksa's fourth tally in as many games put New England ahead just 12 minutes later, as his scoring streak reaches a new MLS-career long. Since 2020, Buksa's 13 headed goals in the MLS regular season or playoffs lead the league, while his 22 goals scored from the run of play are tied for most in league play. Tonight's tally was Buksa's 30th in a Revolution uniform across all competitions.

Columbus leveled the contest in the 89th minute as Erik Hurtado capitalized on a cross from Derrick Etienne, who distributed two assists tonight. Tommy McNamara almost reclaimed the lead for New England when his shot hit the crossbar in the fourth minute of added time, but the Revolution would leave the pitch with only one point.

The Revolution return to action on Wednesday, May 11, in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round of 32 against FC Cincinnati. The 7:00 p.m. ET match streams nationally on ESPN+. New England will then resume the MLS regular season on Sunday, May 15 with an away match at Atlanta United FC, 1:30 p.m. ET on ESPN and ESPN Deportes.

POSTGAME NOTES

The Revolution are unbeaten in their last three home games as their record at Gillette Stadium moves to 3-2-1 in league play.

DeJuan Jones netted his first goal of the 2022 campaign with assists from Emmanuel Boateng and Carles Gil in the 70th minute. The goal was Jones' fifth career tally in MLS as he made his 65th league start.

Adam Buksa scored for the fourth consecutive match, a career-long scoring streak in MLS for the Polish forward. Buksa's four goals this season lead the team.

Buksa is now tied with Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez with 22 goals from open play since the start of 2020.

All four of Buksa's goals this season have been scored via header. Buksa leads MLS with 13 headed goals since 2020 (regular season and playoffs).

Buksa has netted has now netted three goals in 199 minutes played against Columbus in the regular season.

Carles Gil has distributed assists in three consecutive games and owns five helpers on the season - tied for second most in MLS at the conclusion of Saturday's match. The Designated Player has registered one goal and four assists in the last five games.

New England's record shifts to 23-1-9 when Gil registers an assist in the MLS regular season or playoffs.

Emmanuel Boateng recorded his second assist of the season in a 23-minute performance off the bench tonight. The midfielder has tallied three goals and six assists over 20 appearances in a Revolution uniform since joining the club in 2021.

Sebastian Lletget also logged his second assist of the 2022 campaign as he made his 11th appearance of the season.

Matt Turner made one save in tonight's match, his second start of the 2022 season.

Homegrown Player Damian Rivera, 19, made his second MLS start and posted a 67-minute performance. The Cranston, Rhode Island native has appeared in four of the last five matches.

For the second time this season, Bruce Arena deployed an unchanged lineup in back-to-back matches as he made no changes from last Saturday's 2-0 win vs. Inter Miami CF.
