Key plays

Portland's first chance came in the 10th minute of play when midfielder Jack Barmby's cross into the box was deflected back to the edge of the six-yard box to Loría, whose close-range shot forced a difficult save for goalkeeper Andrew Tarbell.

The Timbers broke through in the 28th minute when Ebobisse scored his first goal across competitions with the Timbers in 2018 and his second career goal with the club. The striker managed to find the back of the net after forcing a turnover deep inside the Earthquakes' half, before bringing the ball back onto his left foot to curl a powerful, well-placed effort into the far top corner.

Continuing to attack in the second half, the Timbers doubled their lead when Asprilla added his name to the scoresheet in the 66th minute on a counter-attacking play, with midfielder Diego Chara finding Asprilla with a well-placed pass inside the area. Taking a touch forward, Asprilla carefully slotted his chance into the back of the net.

Shortly after entering the game, Langsdorf created another chance for Portland, with the striker getting on the end of Asprilla's cross, flashing his header wide of the target in the 68th minute.
