LA Galaxy News Release
The LA Galaxy began play in the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Wednesday night against PDL side FC Golden State Force.
The Galaxy earned a 3-1 win over the PDL side behind a brace from Ariel Lassiter and a goal from Bradford Jamieson IV, two LA Galaxy Homegrown Players.
With the result, the Galaxy will now advance to the Fifth Round of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup where they will face LAFC, with the draw taking place tomorrow morning at 8 a.m. PT.
FC Golden State Force defeated USL side Las Vegas Lights to advance to the Fourth Round of the U.S. Open Cup as one of three amateur teams.
FC Golden State earned a 90th minute penalty kick that gave them the 2-1 win last month at Downey, California's Allen Layne Stadium.
Head Coach Sigi Schmid trotted out a lineup that featured both LA Galaxy players and players loaned up from LA Galaxy II in USL.
Three players made their first-team LA Galaxy debut in competitive matches Wednesday night: Justin Vom Steeg, John Requejo, Julian Buscher and Ethan Zubak.
Overall, five players were loaned up from LA Galaxy II to feature in the gameday roster: Julian Buscher, Frank Lopez, John Requejo, Ethan Zubak and Eric Lopez.
Wednesday night's lineup featured a young group, with no players over the age of 27. At 20 years old, Ethan Zubak was the youngest of the group in the Starting XI.
The Galaxy have entered the Open Cup every year since 1999, winning the tournament in 2001 and 2005 while reaching the Open Cup Final on two other occasions.
The Galaxy have now recorded a 34-17-0 all-time record in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Last year, the Galaxy advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition before falling to the San Jose Earthquakes 3-2.
In their next match, the Galaxy host Real Salt Lake at StubHub Center on Saturday, June 9 at 7:30 p.m. PT (Spectrum SportsNet, Spectrum Deportes).
The LA Galaxy were without Ola Kamara (Norway), Giovani dos Santos (international duty), Jonathan dos Santos (international duty), Efrain Alvarez (international duty) and Baggio Husidic (injury) during today's match.
