Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Timbers will play host to the LA Galaxy in the Round of 16 of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Providence Park on Friday, June 15, at 8 p.m. (Pacific), it was determined today as regions, pairings and host scenarios for the fifth round of the tournament were announced by U.S. Soccer.
Tickets for the U.S. Open Cup match at Providence Park are included as part of Timbers Annual Memberships. Individual tickets go on sale to the public on Monday, June 11, at 12 noon (Pacific) and will be available for purchase online at www.timbers.com, by calling (888) 736-6849 and at the Providence Park box office.
Due to Phase 2 stadium-expansion construction work at Providence Park during this period, the east side of the stadium (Sections 92-99; C1-5) once again will not be available for the U.S. Open Cup match and all seating will be general admission for the Round of 16 game against the Galaxy.
The Timbers advanced to the Round of 16 for the fifth time in the last six seasons with a 2-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes at Providence Park on Wednesday. With the win, Portland has posted an 8-6 record in the U.S. Open Cup since joining MLS in 2011, including the team's deepest run in the annual competition in 2013, reaching the semifinals against Real Salt Lake. The June 15 match will mark the second meeting between the Timbers and Galaxy in U.S. Open Cup play, with both sides previously meeting in the Round of 16 at Providence Park on June 29, 2016.
The Galaxy advanced to the Round of 16 after taking a 3-1 win over Premier Development League side FC Golden State Force on Wednesday. The June 15 match will mark the third contest across all competitions between the Timbers and the Galaxy in the 2018 campaign. In the two previous meetings, the Galaxy took a 2-1 win in the 2018 MLS season opener at the StubHub Center on March 4 and both teams recently battled to a 1-1 draw at Providence Park on June 2.
