Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - The Lansing Lugnuts (21-19, 63-47) allowed six runs to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (14-25, 37-72) in a two-inning stretch, sinking the Lugs, 6-3, Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
Wisconsin scored more runs in the fourth and fifth than it had in its previous week's worth of games, tallying five earned runs on Conor Fisk and one unearned tally against Mark Biggs.
The loss snapped Lansing's four-game win streak, while Wisconsin avoided its seventh straight defeat.
Angel Ventura (Win, 6-5) spoiled Lansing's sweep opportunity, weaving through Lugnuts batters while Wisconsin built a five-run edge. Over six innings, the Lugs accumulated seven hits and one run, an RBI single by Alex Maldonado.
Josh Uhen took over and gave up two runs to the Lugs in the eighth to cut the lead in half. Lansing sent the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but Luke Curtis (Save, 3) forced a Dawel Lugo groundout to end the game.
Errant throws and timely hitting allowed Wisconsin to score. Michael De La Cruz committed an error in the fourth, allowing Blake Allemand to reach third before Mark Meyer two-run triple against Fisk (Loss, 2-3).
In the fifth, the Lugs committed two more errors. First, an error by De La Cruz scored Alan Sharkey, and then a throwing error by Maldonado allowed Wisconsin's sixth run to score.
Before the errors, Fisk's outing started sharply, facing the minimum batters and giving up three hits in his first three innings.
Meanwhile, Biggs' outing ended strong, commanding a scoreless seventh and eighth. Biggs surrendered two hits and struck out three in 2.2 IP.
Tim Mayza hit 94 MPH on the radar gun in the eighth, striking out Luis Aviles as part of a perfect ninth.
Lansing starts another three-game set Friday at 7:05 p.m. against the Beloit Snappers. Check out postgame LAFCU Fireworks and starter Tom Robson's (0-0, 0.00) second MWL start, this time against Daniel Gossett (4-10, 4.84).
The homestand runs through August 9 with LAFCU Fireworks on Friday and Saturday and a Kids Day presented by Delta Dental on Sunday. For more information, call (517) 485-4500 or visit lansinglugnuts.com.
