Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release

July 5, 2005 - The Cedar Rapids Kernels, in conjunction with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, announce that catcher Tim Duff has been reassigned to the Kernels from the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes of the California League. To make room on the Kernels' 25-man roster, it was also announced that catcher Tommy Dueñas has been given his unconditional release.

Duff, 24, signed with the Angels as a non drafted free agent on May 15, 2004 out of the University of Tampa (FL) and played with the Provo Angels during the 2004 season, batting .298 with two home runs and 24 RBI. In 22 games with the Quakes, Tim was batting .190 with two home runs and four RBI. He is expected to arrive in Cedar Rapids this afternoon and will be available for Tuesday's game with the Fort Wayne Wizards at 7 pm.

Tommy Dueñas was in his fourth season of professional baseball with the Angels, the third in Cedar Rapids. He was drafted in the 16th round of the 2002 Free Agent Draft and in 55 games this season was batting .209 with six home runs and 19 RBI.

This roster move leaves the Kernels at the Midwest League maximum of 25 players. An updated roster with Duff's uniform number will be sent as soon as it has been assigned.
