Meet Chiefs Centerfielder Sam Fuld
After being drafted by the Cubs for the second consecutive year, Sam Fuld comes to the Chiefs as the Cubs 10th round pick in 2004. Originally drafted in the 24th round in 2003, Fuld returned to Stanford for his senior season. He left Stanford a two-time All-American and a three-time all Pac-10 selection. He is the career leader for the Cardinal in at-bats and runs. He finished his four years with a .335 average, 16 home runs, and 148 RBI.
Fuld signed with the Cubs on July 9, 2004 and did not play last season. As of July 5, the native of Durham, New Hampshire has gone on a tear with a 17-game hitting streak, the longest of the season for any Chief. He's hitting .280 with a home run, 16 RBI, and 18 doubles. During the hit streak, the speedy center fielder has moved into the role of leadoff hitter and has five multi-hit games, including five doubles, a triple, and home run.
