McIntyre goes deep twice in 'Caps win
July 5, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
DAVENPORT, IA - For the second time in a week, Nick McIntyre made Whitecaps history. Following a team record six hits last Wednesday at Dayton, McIntyre tied a team mark with two home runs Tuesday in a 5-1 victory over Quad Cities. Josh Rainwater kept the Swing bats quiet for eight innings to earn the win. Rainwater allowed a run in the first inning. Matt Lemanczyk tripled to lead off, then scored on a ground ball by Eric Verbryke. However, the Whitecaps already had a sizeable lead. West Michigan scored four runs on six consecutive two-out hits in the top of the first.
In addition to McIntyre, Luis Sabino and Matt Parrish had RBI hits in the inning. Parrish went 3-for-4 in the game.
McIntyre finished 3-for-5. His second home run led off the seventh. Jeff Frazier doubled and scored in the first to stretch his hitting streak to eleven game. Ed Clelland retired the Swing in order in the ninth to close out the victory.
The last Whitecap to launch two home runs in a game was Kelly Hunt on August 27, 2004 in a 3-2 win over Wisconsin at Fifth Third Ballpark. Quad Cities played without manager Joe Cunningham. He was called away just before the game after receiving word that his father, Joe Cunningham, Jr., was ill. Joe Jr. played for the Cardinals, White Sox and Senators during a decade-long Major League career. Hitting Coach Keith Mitchell was the acting manager in Cunningham's absence.
