Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

FOX CITIES STADIUM -- Mike Wilson drove in his fifth run of the game with a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the thirteenth inning to give the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers a 7-6 win over the Beloit Snappers Monday night. Wilson was 3-for-4 with three walks to go along with his five RBI. Chris Colton had four hits, scored the winning run, and played stellar defense for the Rattlers. Steve Grasley worked 2-1/3 perfect innings of relief for his fourth win of the season.

Beloit (39-43 overall, 6-6 second half) jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a four run second inning. Johnny Woodard hit his first home run of the season to leadoff the inning. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Luke Hughes knocked in a run with a single. Deacon Burns drilled a double to the gap in rightcenter to drive in two runs, but Hughes was thrown out at the plate for the final out of the inning.

The Snappers lost a run in the top of the third inning. David Winfree was at third with one out. Dwayne White flew out to center and Winfree apparently scored on the sacrifice fly. But, the Rattlers appealed to third and the umpire ruled that Winfree left early and Wisconsin had an inning ending double play.

Wisconsin (44-38, 5-7) got a run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Josh Womack. They added another run an a long, line drive home run to left field by Wilson to start the Rattler fourth.

The Rattlers flashed their defense and pitching in the top of the fifth inning. Colton, who also had a pair of outfield assists, made a leaping catch, crashed into the left field wall, and held on to rob Woodard of an RBI extra-base hit. On the play, Winfree tagged from second and went to third. Rattler starting pitcher Aaron Jensen struck out Chris Brown for the second out of the inning. Then, Rattler shortstop Matt Tuiasosopo fielded a grounder of the bat of White in short left field and whipped a strong throw to first for the final out.

The defense spurred the offense and the Rattlers took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Marshall Hubbard singled in the first run with a two out hit. Wilson followed with a two run single to give the Rattlers their first lead of the game at 5-4.

Jensen left with two outs in the top of the seventh inning after giving up a double to Chris Brown. Jensen gave up fourteen hits and no walks with five strikeouts. Ivan Blanco relieved Jensen, threw a wild pitch, and then walked White to put runners at the corners. Another wild pitch by Blanco allowed Brown to score the tying run. Next, Trevor Plouffe doubled down the right field line for his fourth hit of the night and White scored to put the Snappers back up 6-5.

Wilson had the answer for the Rattlers with a two-out RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 6-6.

The Rattlers had chances in the ninth and tenth innings. In the ninth, the winning run was at second with one out. In the tenth, the Rattlers loaded the bases with one out. But, each time Snapper reliever JP Martinez got out of the inning.

Blanco retired twelve straight after giving up the double to Plouffe in the top of the seventh inning. A two-out double by Burns in the top of the eleventh chased Blanco. Steve Grasley entered and got Midwest League RBI leader Winfree to pop out to right. Grasley set down the Snappers in the twelfth and thirteenth innings to set the stage for the winning rally.

Colton doubled off Kyle Asleton to start the Rattler half of the thirteenth. Yung Chi Chen was walked intentionally with one out. Hubbard walked on four pitches to load the bases. Wilson worked the count to 3-2 and took a high fastball for ball four to force in the winning run.

Game two of the series is Tuesday night. Julio Santiago (1-2, 4.45) will be the starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Kyle Waldrop (4-5, 4.55ERA) is slated to start for the Snappers. Game time is 7:05pm
