Southwest Michigan Devil Rays News Release

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays used another quality start by Andy Sonnanstine and then suffered an extra-inning loss in earning a split of a double-header with the Clinton LumberKings Tuesday night at C.O. Brown Stadium.

Sonnanstine (9-4) is now tied for third in the Midwest League victories category with his nine. He pitched a complete game three-hitter and allowed one run while striking out six with no walks in the first game. Fernando Perez had three hits and Patrick Breen hit his seventh home run in the game.

Fernando Perez used a slash-bunt single in Game 2 to push the team leading hit-streak to 17 games. Josh Asanovich hit his first home run of the 2005 season but it wasn't enough as the LumberKings had an answer every time the Rays scored. Travis Schlichting had two hits and Shaun Cumberland added an RBI.

The Devil Rays played a double-header due to a rain out on the night before. This was their fourth double dip of the season and they have won one, lost one and tied two of those affairs.

Southwest Michigan will take on Clinton in an 11:05 a.m. game on July 6. Jarrad Lavergne will take the mound for the Devil Rays against Andy Walker for the LumberKings. The game is the last Day Game contest of the 2005 season.
