Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Vancouver, BC - Heading into Wednesday night's matchup against the Vancouver Giants the Medicine Hat Tigers were looking to get back into the win column against the Western Conference's worst team. However on this night, the Giants would take home a decisive 6-0 victory.
The opening frame was solid for the Tigers as the boys came out strong playing a hard defensive game as at the midway point of the period Medicine Hat was outshooting the Giants 4-1. Post midway point the game turned up as Medicine Hat took over in the shot clock, ending the period with 14. Just before the final buzzer Vancouver would open the scoring as Chase Lang buried his 6th of the season with 30 seconds left to give the home side some momentum heading into the break.
The second period opened with a goal from Giants rookie Dylan Plouffe, who scored his first career WHL goal with a point shot that found its way past a screened Mack Shields. Moments later Connor Clouston decided to switch momentum as he got into a fight with newly acquired Giants forward Johnny Wesley. Wesley would have to leave the game momentarily to get repairs as he was bleeding above the eyebrow. Ty Ronning would score his 14th of the season before the period ended as he was setup by former Tiger Trevor Cox, making his first appearance against the Tigers since the trade. After two periods, Medicine Hat trailed 3-0.
In the final period, the Giants would take over as most of the frame the Tigers spent on the penalty kill as frustration took over the game. Vancouver would capitalize on their opportunities as Ronning potted two consecutive goals to complete the natural hat trick which increased the lead to 5-0 midway through the period. The final dagger was put in place by Cox against his former team as he picked off a pass shorthanded and feathered a pass through to Chase Lang to seal the game with a 6-0 score.
THREE STARS OF THE GAME:
1. TY RONNING - VAN - (3G)
2. TREVOR COX - VAN - (1G, 2A)
3. RYAN KUBIC - VAN - (33 SAVES, SO)
Medicine Hat now has a day off to recover before taking on the defending WHL Champion Kelowna Rockets on Friday and then completing their road trip in Kamloops Saturday.
