The Portland Winterhawks (12-13-0-0) and Prince George Cougars (15-9-1-1) met Wednesday for the second time in as many nights, with Prince George coming away with a 5-3 decision.
The Hawks struck first, as just 58 seconds into the game Paul Bittner scored his 10th goal of the season for the early 1-0 lead. Midway through the frame, defenseman Jack Dougherty took a shot from the point that got through traffic and beat Prince George netminder Nick McBride for a 2-0 lead.
The Cougars got one back at 17:52 when Chase Witala scored to cut the Hawks' lead to 2-1 going into the second.
Jared Bethune scored 1:34 into the second for the Cougars to tie the game at 2-2, but just over two minutes later with Portland on a power play, Dominic Turgeon scored on a shot from the slot to put the Hawks back on top with a 3-2 advantage. Following Turgeon's goal, the Cougars replaced McBride in goal with Ty Edmonds.
The Cougars tied it for the second time when Jesse Gabrielle scored at 12:48 to even the game at 3-3, which remained the score going into the third.
Prince George took their first lead of the game 5:25 into the third when Kody McDonald scored to make it 4-3. The Cougars struck again when Luke Harrison scored at 12:34 to make it a 5-3 lead which stood as the final.
Turgeon had his 10th multi-point game of the season with a goal and assist.
The Hawks will be back in action Friday when they travel to Kamloops to take on the Blazers.
