Tigers Finish Season Series against Warriors with 5-2 Loss
February 6, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
The Tigers were initially scheduled to travel to Manitoba for three games this weekend but they were postponed due to capacity restrictions in the province. With the weekend now open, the Tigers hosted the Moose Jaw Warriors to make up for the game that was originally scheduled for January 8th. The game was the fourth and final meeting between the two clubs this season. The series has been close with two of the previous games being decided in overtime.
The Warriors came out swinging in the first period putting up four goals. Majid Kaddoura opened the scoring for Moose Jaw only 2:07 into the game when his point shot found its way through traffic for his fourth of the season. A few minutes later, Ryder Korczak made it a 2-0 game with a wrister from the right side that just snuck under the goalie's glove arm for his 17th. Moose Jaw would increase their lead to three just before the midway point of the period. Eric Alarie netted his 13th of the campaign at the 9:23 mark. The Warriors finished off the period with a late goal from rookie Marek Howell. Howell released a wrister from the high slot that found the top shelf for his first career WHL goal.
The Tigers would get one back early in the second period to make it a 4-1 game. Brayden Boehm skated down the left wing and let a shot go along the ice. The low shot fooled the goalie and just snuck past his skate for Boehm's fifth of the season. Reid Andresen and Pavel Bocharov picked up the assists on the goal.
Teague Patton and the Tigers would strike early in the third period to cut the lead to two. Patton let a wrister go from between the hash marks that beat the tender high on the blocker side. Brayden Boehm and Oasiz Wiesblatt picked up the helper's on Patton's eighth of the season. Unfortunately, that was as close as the Tigers would come. The Warriors would add a power play goal late in the period to ice the game 5-2. Jagger Firkus scored his team leading 26th of the season off a one timer in the high slot that found the back of the net high on the blocker side.
Beckett Langkow (3-10-1-1) got the start in net for the Tigers. He allowed five goals against on 30 shots.
