Regina Pats News Release

Calgary, Alta. - Despite the Regina Pats storming back from a 3-1 deficit in the third period on Sunday afternoon, the Calgary Hitmen were able to tie the game in the final minute and then win in overtime 5-4.

The Pats have now lost three games in a row by a single goal, while their overall losing streak has reached five games (0-4-1).

The fight Regina showed in the third period should nonetheless be applauded. They fired 31 shots on goal in the first 40 minutes, but couldn't beat Brayden Peters and found themselves down 2-0 entering the final frame.

Early in the third, Connor Bedard scored a surefire Goal of the Year Candidate to get the Pats to within one.

Blake Allan restored the Hitmen's two-goal advantage just 10 seconds later, but Regina got a response from Ryker Evans to make it 3-2, then a game-tying-goal from Bedard on the power play, followed by Evans' second of the game on a blast from the point to make it 4-3 for the Pats.

Grayden Siepmann would tie the game with 12 seconds to go on a power play before Hitmen forward Sean Tschigerl played overtime hero just 32 seconds in on a breakaway.

The Pats out-shot the Hitmen 50-31 in the contest.

3rd Period

REG 1-2 at 2:57 - Connor Bedard (23), assisted by Braxton Whitehead and Layton Feist // Bedard made defenceman Matthew Sutter look silly with a toe drag and then finished top corner between his legs.

CGY 3-1 at 3:07 - Blake Allan (5), assisted by Grayden Siepmann // Siepmann made a couple great moves to work his way to the net and get a low shot off, which deflected off the pad right for Allan, who put in the rebound to make it 3-1.

REG 2-3 at 11:16 // Ryker Evans (9), assisted by Connor Bedard // During some 4-on-4 play, Bedard fed Evans in the neutral zone on the left wing, who had enough space to drive wide and get in tight to the net, where he snuck a shot top corner on the short side under the arm of Peters.

REG 3-3 at 13:35 // Connor Bedard (24), assisted by Tanner Howe and Logan Nijhoff (PPG) // Nijhoff went backdoor to Bedard on the power play.

REG 4-3 at 14:36 // Ryker Evans (10), assisted by Neithan Salame and Logan Linklater // Salame went D-to-D in the offensive zone from left to right, teeing up Evans for the one-time blast past the blocker side.
