Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Prince Albert, SK - A penalty filled game sees the Medicine Hat Tigers do everything they can come away with a win Saturday night but it was not meant to be as the Prince Albert Raiders vaulted to a 5-4 win over the Tigers at the Art Hauser Centre.
The Tigers would start things off on the right foot with Shane Smith (Cessford, AB) opening the scoring at 1:13 from the top of the left circle to beat Raiders starter Tikhon Chaika. Medicine Hat would immediately follow their opening goal with a pair of penalties to give the Raiders a 5 on 3 but thanks to Evan May (Nanaimo, BC) the Tigers would kill it off and take a 1-0 lead to the 1st intermission.
After another set of back to back penalties, the Tigers would have another 5 on 3 to give the Raiders another opportunity to notch things even but the penalty kill would once again come in clutch to keep the Raiders off the scoresheet. Shortly after, Brenden Lee* (Seattle, WA) would keep his goal streak alive his 12th of the season to make it 2-0 Tigers. Medicine Hat would keep the Raiders at bay for so long until they'd finally solve Evan May as Sloan Stanick would go post and in at 18:23, then the Tigers would be penalized again late and Evan Herman would score through traffic to make it 2-2 heading to the third,
The Raiders would take their first lead of the game as Landon Kosior would notch his 9th of the season on a one time shot to make it 3-2 Prince Albert at 3:36. But the Tigers weren't about to tell the penalty misfortunes sink them as on an opportune power play, Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) would get his 8th of the year to tie the game again at 4:42.
Half way through the third the Raiders would once again take the lead as Stanick would re-direct his second of the game off an Easton Kovacs shot at 10:56 to make 4-3 Prince Albert. From there the Tigers would take their chances but the Raiders would find an opening as Evan Herman would get his second of the night to put the Raiders up 5-3 with 3:07 left in regulation.
Cayden Lindstrom (Chetwynd, BC) would score with .1 seconds left in the game to make it a 5-4 deficit but Prince Albert would take their second straight game against the Tigers.
With the loss the Tigers drop their record to 6-10-4-3 while the Raiders are now 8-12-2. The Penalty Kill had a work out going 9/11 with two 5 on 3 kills and the Tigers killed off the first 7 penalties dealt their way early in the 2nd period. The Power Play was able to cash once on eventually five chance through the game. Prince Albert outshot Medicine Hat 29-26.
The Tigers will turn their attention to a home tilt Wednesday night at Co-op Place when the Edmonton Oil Kings roll in for the 1st time this season. You can get your tickets now at tixx.ca.
