Silvertips Fall 4-1 in Portland as Bear, Maze Make WHL Debut

PORTLAND, Oreg. - The Everett Silvertips were dealt a 4-1 loss to the Portland Winterhawks Friday night at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. Julien Maze (1st-round WHL Draft Pick, '22) and Carter Bear (6th-round WHL Pick, '21) each made their Western Hockey League debut in the contest.

Braden Holt made 12 stops in the first period to keep the game scoreless, with the Tips killing off four penalties in the process.

Portland's Ryder Thompson opened the scoring at 2:10 in the second period with his first goal of the season. The Winterhawks added to the lead with a rebound goal at 13:46 as Aidan Litke cashed in after a Robbie Fromm-Delorme chance. Jack O'Brien capped off a 2-on-0 at 18:24 for a 3-0 lead heading into the third period.

Fromm-Delorme potted a rebound of his own for a 4-0 advantage 2:02 into the third. Olen Zellweger would score the Tips' lone goal at 10:36 in the period, slipping a backhander through Dante Giannuzzi for his ninth tally of the year.

The Silvertips turn their attention to the Seattle Thunderbirds tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. in Kent. They return home Wednesday, Nov. 23 hosting the Winterhawks. Tickets are available.
