Finnie's Buzzer-Beater Gives Edmonton Second Straight Win in Lethbridge

Lethbridge, AB - The Edmonton Oil Kings clawed their way back from a third period deficit to defeat the Lethbridge Hurricanes 4-2 Saturday night at the EnMax Centre thanks to a late go-ahead goal from Lethbridge product Marshall Finnie.

The Oil Kings had an excellent road-period in the opening 20 minutes, outshooting the Hurricanes 10-9 and were rewarded with a 1-0 lead at the intermission.

Vojtech Port extended his current point-streak to three games as he fired home a point-shot through a screen on an Edmonton power play at the 12:38 mark of the first on a setup from Gavin Hodnett and Luca Hauf.

The Hurricanes were able to level the score just 1:32 into the second period after Cole Shepard was able to pounce on a rebound in front of the Edmonton net for the equalizer.

Tyson Zimmer gave the Hurricanes their first lead of the game at the 12:37 mark as he was able to pick the short-side top corner from the right-circle of the Edmonton zone on a Hurricane odd-man rush.

The 'Canes would go on to outshoot the Oil Kings 13-6 in the middle stanza and took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission.

In the third period, the Oil Kings got on the comeback trail.

Frist, Carson Golder tied the game with just over six minutes left as he wheeled into the left-wing circle and lasered a shot over the glove of Bryan Thomas.

Then, Finnie, playing in his hometown for the first time in WHL career, crashed the net on a late goal mouth scramble and scooped the puck over a prone Thomson and in with just 18 seconds left in the game.

Golder capped the night with an empty-net goal in the final seconds to give Edmonton the 4-2 victory.

Kolby Hay turned in a 30-save performance for his second straight win, while Thomson made 25 for the Hurricanes. The Oil Kings went 1-for-4 on the power play, the Hurricanes were 0-for-3.

Next up, the Oil Kings hit the road for three games next week starting Wednesday, November 23 in Medicine Hat when they tangle with the Tigers at 7:00 P.M. You can listen to the game at oilkings.ca/radio.
