Tigers Can't Complete Comeback Falling 5-3 to Hurricanes
December 10, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Lethbridge, AB - Tyson Zimmer scored the eventual game winner giving the Lethbridge Hurricanes a 5-3 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers Friday Night.
The Tigers opened the scoring at 12:27 of the first frame thanks to Dru Krebs (Okotoks, AB) taking a feed from Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Brenden Lee (Seattle, WA) to make it 1-0, but 1:25 seconds later the Hurricanes would score to tie the game at 1-1 thanks to a Brandon Wormald break away beating Tigers starter Evan May (Nanaimo, BC).
Lethbridge and Medicine Hat would stay square at 1-1 heading to the second period, outshooting the Hurricanes 10-7.
The Hurricanes would take a two-goal lead in the 2nd with goals from Miguel Marques and then Tyson Zimmer at 14:02 to give Lethbridge a 3-1 cushion. But the Tigers stormed back just 29 seconds after the Zimmer goal as Owen MacNeil (Calgary, AB) would score his 4th of the season and second goal against Lethbridge in the season series to make it a 3-2 deficit. Then cue Brayden Boehm (Nanaimo, BC) who keeps on a Medicine Hat 2 on 1 and wiring a shot past Hurricanes goaltender Harrison Meneghin to square things up at 3-3 heading to the third.
Medicine Hat would outshoot Lethbridge 20-11 in the period and had 30 shots before the puck dropped in the 3rd and final stanza.
But despite opportunities on both ends it would be Zimmer scoring his second of the game and the eventual winner at 9:36 to give the Hurricanes the 5-3 win as Jett Jones would score an empty netter to seal the victory for Lethbridge Friday night.
Despite the loss the Tigers weren't able to beat Harrison Meneghin outshooting the Hurricanes 41-25. Both teams penalty kills were perfect as the Tigers were 1/1 and the Hurricanes were 3/3 against the Medicine Hat power play.
The loss drops the Tigers record to 10-15-4-1 and will turn their attention to the Moose Jaw Warriors at Co-op Place as it's the third last home game before the Christmas Break. Tickets are available online at tixx.ca Puck drop is set for 7 pm.
