Raiders Suffer Largest Defeat of the Season with 9-0 Loss to Blades
December 10, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Prince Albert Raiders News Release
Saskatoon extended their winning streak to nine games, while the Raiders saw their losing streak extend to five games, as the Blades took a 9-0 victory out of the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday night.
The Blades got off to a quick start, scoring just 51 seconds into the contest. After winning a puck battle in the neutral zone, Brandon Lisowsky stepped into the offensive zone and fired a shot far side past Tikhon Chaika's blocker to give Saskatoon a quick 1-0 lead with his 12th goal of the season.
Eight minutes later, the Blades struck again on the powerplay. It was Egor Sidorov ripping a shot over Chaika's glove this time, sniping home his 13th of the season, and his first of two goals in the first period to make it 2-0.
Lukas Hansen added to that lead just under two minutes later, firing home his fourth goal of the season to put the visitors up 3-0. Then with 1:08 to go in the frame, Sidorov netted his second goal of the game on another Blades powerplay, sniping a one timer home after taking a feed from Trevor Wong to give the Blades four goals in the first period.
When the buzzer sounded to end the opening frame, it was Saskatoon who took that 4-0 lead into the dressing room, while holding a commanding 20-6 lead in shots on goal.
The bleeding didn't stop in the second period, as the Blades scored three more times to go up 7-0. Connor Roulette started things off in the middle frame with a powerplay marker to make it 5-0, while Brandon Lisowsky scored to put up a six-spot midway through the frame, which yanked Chaika from the goal, as Max Hildebrand came in to replace the netminder.
Hildebrand faced three shots in his relief time in the second period, with one of them going in, and it came on another Saskatoon powerplay. Lukas Hansen scored his second goal of the contest, with a fortuitous bounce off Eric Johnston, who dove in front to block a centering pass. The puck went off the defenceman and in to make it a 7-0 spread.
The Blades took their touchdown lead into the third period, leading in shots 31-17.
Vaughn Watterodt scored to make it 8-0 in the third period, while Lisowsky completed the hat trick, as the Blades won by a 9-0 final.
The Raiders (10-18-2-0) hit the ice at home on Wednesday night against the Medicine Hat Tigers. Puck drop is 7pm.
