Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - The ThunderBolts erased a 5-4 deficit, scoring two runs in the ninth for a 6-5 win over the Frontier Greys Friday night at Standard Bank Stadium. For the second straight night, Kyle Robinson provided the game-winning hit.
Windy City trailed early, allowing a first-inning run for the fourth straight day. Jon Dziomba singled and scored on a Chris Ellison double.
The ThunderBolts tied the score with four straight singles in the third. Andrew Brauer picked up the RBI. They had the bases loaded with no outs, but Clint Wright struck out three straight hitters and did not allow the Bolts to take the lead.
The Greys scored twice to move ahead in the fifth, the first run coming on a Steve Rogers home run. Dziomba's sacrifice fly following a Chase Tucker triple made it 3-1.
In the bottom of the inning, the ThunderBolts took their first lead with help from two Greys errors. Brauer singled and later scored on a throwing error and Robinson and Tony Viger were each on base with two outs and scored when Max White reached on an error.
Again the Greys reclaimed the lead. In the top of the sixth, Joe Rapp doubled and scored on a groundout and Frank Florio homered to make it 5-4.
That would be the score into the bottom of the ninth when Brauer led off with a single. He stole second and advanced on a Torres bunt. The throw went to third allowing Torres to reach. He then stole second before Robinson hit a line drive to left to score Brauer and Torres and win the game.
Victor Larez (3-3) threw two shutout innings of relief for the win and Cameron Lamb (2-6) allowed the runs in the ninth for the loss.
The ThunderBolts continue their series with the Frontier Greys on Saturday. Josh Spence (1-7, 5.09) will get the start for the Bolts against Lemarre Rey (2-5, 8.13) of the Greys. It is Elvis Night at Standard Bank Stadium with a pregame concert from Jerry "Elvis" Vegas at 5:00. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 and fans not in attendance can hear the broadcast on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
