Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Lake Erie Crushers scored the final eight runs of the ballgame to earn a 9-1 victory over the Traverse City Beach Bums on Friday night at Wuerfel Park.

Vincent Mejia started the scoring for Lake Erie with a solo homer in the top of the second. Carlos Berroa countered for Traverse City with a solo home run in the last of the third for his first professional hit in his second game with TC, knotting the game at one.

The Crushers responded with a two-out single from Ryan Hutchison in the fourth to make it 2-1, taking the lead for good. Andrew Davis pushed the lead to 4-1 in the fifth on a two-run double before scoring on Mejia's second round-tripper of the day that made it 6-1. Joey Burney added an RBI single in the seventh and a two-run knock in the ninth to open the advantage to 9-1.

Traverse City managed just three hits on the night, including the solo homer from Berroa, who sent one out to right against Lake Erie starter Andy Roberts. That was the only miscue for Roberts (1-0) who picked up his first pro win by allowing a run on a hit in five innings.

Rusty Shellhorn (4-4) started well for Traverse City, but ended up taking the loss. He allowed six runs on eight hits in five innings despite striking out five.

Traverse City and Lake Erie tangle again on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Casey Delgado (6-4, 3.06) starts for the Beach Bums against the Crushers' Zach Gordon (2-3, 3.86). It's Duck Commander night at Wuerfel Park with Martin, Godwin, and Reed Robertson from A&E's Duck Dynasty in attendance. Fans can meet the trio from 5-6 p.m. with a game ticket needed for the meet and greet. Fans can listen to the broadcast starting at 6:45 p.m. on Classic Rock the Bear 98.1/107.1 and classicrockthebear.com.
