Windy City ThunderBolts News Release

Crestwood, IL - The ThunderBolts plated 4 runs in what became the decisive 6th inning to trip the Evansville Otters 5-3 Friday at Hawkinson Ford Field. The Bolts have now won 3 out of their past 4 series.

Windy City trailed 1-zip in the 3rd inning after Denver Stuckey volleyed an RBI single off of ThunderBolt starter Preston Simms. Windy City got the run back in the home half of the stanza as Justin Schuda sent a sacrifice fly to right field. The Otters plated a pair in the 5th to snare a 2-run edge.

But, the lead was short-lived. Jason Crosland began the fateful 6th with a ground ball to short that Geoff Milsom couldn't handle. Schuda followed with a single and Nick Klusaw broke an 0-for-10 funk against the Otters with a run-scoring knock. After Matt Barket sacrificed the runners ahead 90 feet apiece, Matt Ferrara shipped the first pitch he saw off of Cody Blackard into center field. That scored the duo of Klusaw and Schuda. The final run of the game was chased across in the person of Ferrara on a Doug Schutt single.

Simms earned his 5th victory in 6 starts with the T-Bolts this season. Just 2 Otters crossed as earned runs Friday night and his 7 innings tied a season high. Chris Hayes finished Evansville off in order in the 9th to post his 2nd save in as many nights and his 5th in aggregate. The Bolts are now 9-6 against lefty starters this season.

Tomorrow begins a 3-game series with the Ohio Valley Redcoats at Hawkinson Ford Field. The Redcoats swept the Bolts in mid-June in Crestwood. Tomorrow night is fireworks night at "The Hawk". Join the ThunderBolts for some pyrotechnics after the contest.
