FLORENCE, KY - A change of scenery didn't do the Rockford RiverHawks any good.

After getting swept in Chillicothe, the ‘Hawks dropped their fourth straight on Saturday, losing the series opener in Florence 8-4.

The Freedom broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the third and never trailed the rest of the way. Mike Galloway hit an RBI single with two out and Trevor Hall followed with a two-run single off Rockford starter Luke Lambo (0-1).

The ‘Hawks came right back with three runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game. Four of the first five batters of the inning singled off Florence starting pitcher Mark Harris (5-1).

The Freedom answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead at 5-3. Josh Sanchez drove in Scott Martin, who doubled with one out, and Joe Holland later scored on a wild pitch.

Florence added an unearned run in the fifth, a run off Derrick Ellison in the sixth, and a run off Dave Parker in the eighth.

Mickey O'Quinn picked up his first save, throwing 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief while striking out seven.

The RiverHawks continue their series in Florence at 5:05 p.m. Sunday. Rockford returns to Marinelli Field on Tuesday, August 9th, to begin a three-game homestand against Kalamazoo.

The 'Hawks are the defending champions of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league in its 13th season. All games are broadcasted live on WRHL-FM, 102.3 - the Hub.
