Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
CRESTWOOD, IL - The ThunderBolts were held to one run on nine hits over 14 innings of baseball Sunday night as they were swept in a doubleheader for the first time since August 7, 2007. The Joliet Slammers took game one 3-1 and won game two 5-0.
The ThunderBolts took their only lead of the day in the bottom of the first of game one. Andrew Brauer and Ryan Soares each singled to put runners at the corners and Max White drove in Brauer on a sacrifice fly.
Joliet came right back with two in the second. Seth Granger doubled and Josh Scheffert singled with one out. Max Casper brought home Granger on a bunt and Scheffert scored on an Adam Lewis sacrifice fly. The Slammers put up their final run on an Adrian English solo home run in the sixth.
The ThunderBolts managed just one hit after the second inning off of Matt Costello (2-1), who went six innings for the win. Eli Anderson (1-8) allowed two earned runs in six innings for the loss. David Kubiak pitched a perfect seventh for his fifth save.
Casper put the Slammers ahead early in game two. He followed hits from Adam Giacalone and Seth Granger with a two-run double. Grant DeBruin's three-run homer in the fifth finished the scoring.
The Bolts managed just five hits, all singles, in game two and never got a runner as far as third base. In both the first and fifth innings, they put two men on base with one out, but failed to score.
Andrew Busby (3-6) pitched five shutout innings for the win and Jake Fisher (4-10) gave up five runs in 4.2 innings, taking the loss.
The ThunderBolts take two days off before returning to action on Wednesday evening at Evansville's Bosse Field. They will play their second straight doubleheader with the first game against the Otters scheduled for a 5:35 start. Travis Tingle (8-5, 4.71) and Josh Spence (1-9, 5.01) will be the starters for the ThunderBolts. The game broadcast can be heard on meridix.com.
