Sergey Throws Perfect Game in Wild Things Win against Grizzlies

WASHINGTON, PA - Washington starting pitcher Matt Sergey fired the first perfect game in league history and the Wild Things beat the Gateway Grizzlies 6-0 Sunday at CONSOL Energy Park.

Sergey (2-0), a 25-year-old right-hander from Plantation, Fla., became the first pitcher to no-hit the Grizzlies (47-40) in franchise history. Sergey picked up nine strikeouts in the two hour and five minute game.

Washington (52-34) scored two runs on a pair of RBI doubles in the third inning from Ryan Kresky and Carter Bell.

Andrew Heck drove in a run on a single in the sixth inning and Kresky picked up an RBI double in the seventh inning against Gateway starting pitcher Daniel Cropper (6-8).

Cropper allowed four runs on nine hits in six and two thirds inning. The right-hander walked three and struck out two.

Washington added two runs on solo home runs from Maxx Garrett and Andrew Heck in the eighth inning.

The Grizzlies begin a six-game homestand Tuesday night with game of their series against the Greys. Left-hander Kerry Kelley will make the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 6:35.
