
Thunder Win for Second Time this Week Over IceMen

Evansville, IN - Chris Chappell set a new career-high in goals, scoring the game-winner halfway through the third period and gave Wichita (38-15-2) back-to-back wins against Evansville (36-15-4) 2-1 on Friday night at the Ford Center. Wichita moves two points ahead of the IceMen for the most points in the CHL and 11 points ahead of Allen for first place in the Berry Conference. .
At 10:36 of the first, RG Flath (18) scored his fourth goal against Evansville this season and second on the week. Right after a Thunder power play expired, Matt Summers got to a loose puck and found Flath for the 1-0 lead.
Evansville cashed in on a two-man advantage when Matt Gens scored from the blue line with a slap shot at 8:57 and tied the game at one.
Wichita took advantage of tripping penalty in the third period when Chappell (10) found a rebound at the right circle and scored past IceMen goaltender Bryan Gillis to make it 2-1. After Wichita was unsuccessful on a long five-on-three power play, the IceMen pulled Gillis for the extra attacker to try to tie the game. Wichita kept the IceMen out of the zone and hung on for the 2-1 victory.
The Thunder moved its winning streak to four games and lead the season-series 3-2 over Evansville. Matt Summers extended his point streak to nine games with an assist, Bryan Hogan made 29 saves on 30 shots and won for the seventh time since coming over to Wichita from Dayton.
Wichita remains in the state of Indiana for one more game, taking on Fort Wayne for the second time this season on Sunday afternoon and will not return to the Air Capital till March 14th against Rapid City.
