Rapid City Rush News Release

(Independence, MO) - In a battle for playoff positioning, the Rapid City Rush and Missouri Mavericks squared off at the Independence Events Center on Friday night. The Mavericks ended up on top with a 3-1 win and now overtake third place in the Turner Conference. The contest featured tremendous goaltending by Rapid City's Tim Boron and Missouri's Charlie Effinger who combined for sixty-nine saves. The Rush continue on their five-game road trip with a tilt against the Tulsa Oilers tomorrow at 6:35pm MST and the game can be heard live on 100.3 the FOX.

A highly contested first 40 minutes produced only one goal, and that came from the Missouri Mavericks at the 18:48 mark of the 2nd. After a clean breakout, the Mavs carried speed into the offensive zone where Brandon Smith's rebound broke the scoreless tie with his fourth of the season.

The Rush responded less than two minutes into the third period, when a strong individual effort by Collin Circelli allowed the forward to snap a wrist shot in from the left circle. The game seemed headed to extra time, but a defensive zone breakdown by the Rush led to the eventual game-winner by Sebastien Thinel with 2:03 left on the board. Andrew Courtney added an empty-net goal in the final minute to ice the 3-1 win for Missouri.
